Transgender Rights Support Statement

We of the undersigned organizations stand in solidarity with transgender Americans…
as the attacks on trans people continue to escalate in Kansas and elsewhere. This latest round of attacks is part of an ongoing, systemic effort to strip trans people of their dignity, severely restrict their civil rights, and ultimately remove them from public life. Keeping people from accessing accurate ID documents — whether passports or driver’s licenses — works towards all of these goals and has terrifying analogues in history. As is, an estimated 400,000 trans people have fled their home states since November 2024, and thousands more are unable to flee.
As Heathen religious, advocacy, and community organizations, we believe every person is worthy of compassion, conscience, and care.
We reject cruelty, harassment, and dehumanization. And at a time when transgender people and their families are experiencing wave after wave of fear and isolation, we wish to speak clearly: transgender people deserve to live in safety, to be treated with respect, and to know that they are not alone.
Transgender people have long been part of modern Heathenry.
They have helped build our communities, written our books, served as clergy, and shaped the life of this faith. They are not separate from our traditions. They are part of our living history and our living future. Heathenry is their home because it was by their hands that our faith was built. You cannot erase them without erasing what makes us who we are.
As members of a minority religion, many of whom are trans ourselves, we stand ready to support transgender people and their communities. We pledge to do everything in our power to fight against these efforts alongside our trans siblings.
We strongly urge you to do what you can to support trans people on both a local and national scale.
Listen well, speak with care, support those who are vulnerable, and help ensure that transgender people are treated with dignity in everyday life. One way to help is to donate to trans-led organizations that are doing what they can to protect their communities.
To transgender people across this country: we see you and we pledge to stand with you.
